School Closures in Response to Hurricane Helene Due to the potential for high winds, heavy rainfall and flooding associated with Hurricane Helene over the next two days, and with guidance from the National Weather Service and Camden Emergency Management Agency, Camden County Schools will close all schools Thursday, September 26, 2024, and Friday, September 27, 2024, for all staff and students. The safety of our students, employees, and their families will always be our first priority. In any emergency, it is critical for parents and students to rely on accurate, timely information directly from the school system or local and state officials. All official announcements regarding schools will be made on the Camden County Schools website, Facebook and Instagram pages, through the Camden County Schools app, on local radio stations – KBAY 106.3 and WECC 89.3, and on the Tribune and Georgian website. Please check one or more of these sources for updates regarding future decisions. We wish everyone the best as you prepare for the storm and make plans to ensure the safety of your families. Thank you for your patience during this time.

In addition to monthly fire drills and yearly weather drills, we are required by state statute to conduct an intruder/lockdown drill by October 1. We will be conducting our mandated drill on Friday, September 27th. At MLG, we refer to this drill as a “school safety” drill. A drill reminder will be announced over the intercom for everyone in the building. We will be using our safety software called Centegix, this will turn on indicator beacons throughout the school and send a message to staff computers to indicate a lockdown. Staff and students will be directed to secure themselves in a locked room, out of eyesight from doors and windows. The room lights are turned off and everyone remains quiet briefly until administration signals “all-clear”. Outside of these drills, this procedure would only be implemented when an imminent, clear and present danger poses a risk to students and staff. While these drills are required for schools to complete, we understand that they can cause some stress and/or anxiety for some of our students. We do our best to make it a drill like any other and refer to it in a way that does not create additional concern. Parents do have the right to opt out of the intruder/lockdown drills by contacting their school, however, we strongly encourage everyone to participate to ensure they are prepared. Thank you!

Mrs. Lloyd’s Kindergarten class is learning about characters and setting. The class read a story about naming a new puppy Sunny. The students used a graphic organizer to illustrate the character and setting of the story. Great job, Mrs. Lloyd’s class!

Attention Camden Families: There is an increased presence of law enforcement at our schools as a precautionary measure. If you notice more officers on campus, please know that this does not necessarily indicate a problem. Our top priority is the safety and well-being of our students and staff. Rest assured, we will always communicate promptly if there is ever a threat to our school community. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Our second-graders have been learning about the content area word, matter, which is comprised of solids, gases, and liquids. They read an informational text about the many kinds of matter and learned the meaning of those words through the text. After reading the story, the students worked together to sort out and identify different pictures of solids, gases, and liquids.

📚✨ Problem Solving in Camden County Schools: A Step-by-Step Guide! 🌟 At Camden County Schools, we believe in addressing issues promptly and effectively. Here's the process to ensure your concerns are heard and resolved: 🔹 Step 1: Teacher/Staff Member Closest to the Situation Start by discussing the issue with the teacher or staff member who is directly involved. They are often the best equipped to provide immediate solutions or clarifications. 🔹 Step 2: School Administrator/Division Supervisor If the problem isn't resolved, the next step is to contact the school administrator or division supervisor. They can offer additional support and resources to help address the concern. 🔹 Step 3: Central Office Administrator Should the issue persist, reach out to a central office administrator. They have a broader perspective and can coordinate with various departments to find a resolution. 🔹 Step 4: Superintendent For more complex issues, the Superintendent is available to provide higher-level intervention and ensure that all policies and procedures are being followed. 🔹 Step 5: Board of Education As a last resort, you can bring the concern to the Board of Education. They oversee the entire school district and can make decisions on policy changes or other significant actions. We are committed to creating a positive and supportive environment for our students, staff, and community. Your voice matters, and we're here to help every step of the way! 💬🤝 #BElieveinCAMDEN #WeAreCamden #ProblemSolving #CommunitySupport #YourVoiceMatters

During small groups, Mrs. Harvey and her second-grade students have been working on text organization and why authors write texts in chronological order. They've been reading an informational text about the life cycle of a frog. After they finished the book, the students made hats representing the correct order of events of a frog’s life cycle.

Mrs. Hogue's first-grade students went on a hunt around the classroom for words during a "Write the Room" activity. Their glasses and fancy pens helped them find and write a variety of words during this fun center.
